  1. Hi Mark,

This activity has been a great one to showcase a lot of unique and interesting portraits. I love how you have recreated his funny facial expression. This picture you have chosen looks like someone has done a modern take of one of Vincent Van Goghs original portraits – he definitely didn’t have a phone to take a selfie with in his life time! Did you know he died more than 130 years ago today!

Did you get to learn anything about Vincent Van Gogh though doing this activity yourself?

    Thanks for sharing Mark.

    1. Kia Ora Emma,

I found out some interesting facts about Vincent Van Gogh.
He painted almost 900 paintings in 10 years. …
He lived on coffee, cigarettes and bread. …
The truth behind him cutting his eear is still unknown. …
‘Starry Night’ was created in a mental hospital …
He was a pioneer of the post-impressionistic selfie.

      1. Hi Mark,

Wow 900 painting is a heck of a lot!
I think he was quite a sad person throughout his life, it sounds like he struggled with a lot of things. Often people use art to express their emotions.

I was lucky enough to visit the Van Gogh immersive experience that was in Auckland a couple of years ago. It was amazing to learn about his life and see all of the artwork he created.

Do you think you would like to be an artist one day?

I went for the Van Gogh exhibition in Christchurch too. It was very nice. Yes, I want to be an artist 1 day.

          Thank you for your comment.

Would you like to be painter like Van Gogh?
Or do you have another style of art you would like to do?
